Collective Structure


These changes will take effect unless there is dissent...so speak up if you have input!

Meela was thinking that we could be a closed collective with mebership, as we have had some problems about deciding who gets to make decisions. With this structure, visitors are still welcome, and can become part of the collective too. We should ask people if they want to join, and in this meeting come up with a list of criteria for members.

How do we introduce new structure? Send out an email inviting people to come on board, and ask for dissent by a certain date.

It was suggested we form a new specific collective focussed around NewQ. Wen we started, we decided that the Resurgence collective would care for NewQ. Resurgence is a wider group of people that have organized Queeruption and Resurgence, not necessarily committed to running a long term space... which is fine, it is just a distinction that should be made.
We also need to discuss how to engage with new people and people who want to be involved, just not at that level of commitment.

Criteria:

1. Willing to commit time and money to the space (even a dollar a week, an hour a week is enough...and in special circumstances if people can't afford to contribute financially). Waged and unwaged recommended contributions being (waged $10, unwaged $5 per week)
2. Should be able to attend at least half of the collective meetings if possible (or giving apologies and replying to email is fine too, the point is to register a presence in the collective).
   
3.  To be active in decision making and building NewQ.

Guidelines:

1. members can vote and have keys
2. politics should be
3.  congruent with those of the collective... we need to spell these out, if we have time this meeting.

Meela will make two new lists: one for 'chatter', another for core organizational stuff.
Kate will email a description of collective structure shift, with invitation to everyone to join and give dissent.

Dissent:
Over chat Hexy raised some doubts as to having a closed collective, that it would make people feel unwelcome, she suggested an open collective with a standing committee that would take on the responsibilities listed for closed collective members.
Nat thought having commitment spelt and encouraged would be good, but was concerned about alienating people who are new to NewQ or not ready to commit to being in the core collective yet/ever.

Money

We don't have any...
Meela will put in 90 , Nat will put in 100.
Now we can pay next fortnight's rent

So, we need to have a big-time fundraiser, before the festival in Sept/Oct.
Suggested we do a Community cafe...build it well, have a film night, charge people $5 for big vegan meal and film, then sell drinks too.
Kate, Meela and Nat to dumpster, Nat, Meela and maybe Kat to cook

Other tasks that we need volunteers for:

• Donation at the door
• Choosing and running the film
• MC slash represent
• people to serve food and drinks
• coordinate workshops, maybe 2 before the film

we didn't get to the other stuff, we'll do that at the next Resurgence meeting
