hi all,
it's happening - the parade is in less than a week!
the briefing was today, so i now know everything official that i'm ever going to. here it is:
pleaseconfirm that you're actually coming, as soon as you can, athanaleah@gmail.com or 0417450802 - not just clicking the button onfacebook! we probably have enough for everyone, but frankly can'tguarantee you a wristband unless you do, and without one, you'll be alldressed up and stuck at the barrier.
also, let me know how you're going on the costume front. it'd be greatif you could tell me what you're doing so we can help undecided peoplefit; if you still need ideas or help, let me know.
it looks like we'll have a banner together and some fliers, butwe're really relying on everyone having coherent costumes to get ourmessage across. having signs or placards to carry would also help, butwe don't have anything but ideas yet. if you have some time and energyfor making signage or cutting leaflets over the next week, or even some'we're here we're queer we're ...' slogans, please talk to me!
we also still have one spot for a media person - anyone want tocome along and take photos or video or something? not necessary, butcould be fun.
on the day, this saturday march 1, meet at 5.30 atthe corner of Elizabeth and Goulburn Streets - the south end of thestarting enclosure. hopefully there will be an obvious place where wecan stand, but it might be difficult. Call me on 0417450802 if you'relost or anything.
We're one of the last floats to march, taking off at about 9.30,but we'll still really need everyone to be on time, as the parade is'locked down' at 6pm. it's going to be a little tricky: everyone has tostay outside while I go inside at 5.45 to show documents and collectwristbands, then we have to get everyone wristbanded and into theenclosure by six. it sound like they're going to be quite strict sinceit's such a big parade this year, so please be cooperative and help meavoid heart attacks between 5.30 and 6.15 or so!
Remember our float name is 'Queer Nerds' and our number is K9.
also, mardi gras wants me to mention that you may well be photographed, andthat the photos will belong to them - not that they'll probably be tooworried about us with our probable lack of drag queens! and no fire, animals, or illegal anything around - there will be cops.
bring food and water and whatever you need for many hours outdoors, but also remember that anything you haven't been able to consume by9.30 you'll have to carry, as we have no vehicle.
and finally, we'll be asking a $5 donation, but tell me if you really can't, and don't let it keep you away.
looking forward to hearing from everyone,
kate
